Sad Loss
Just a wee note to let you know that the pipe band world yesterday lost another drummer.
Stephen "Monkey" Monkhouse, who was a Drummer in the 1st Batt Scots Guards, was killed in action in Afghanistan by small arms fire, while trying to rescue a wounded colleague. This shows the other side of military Pipe Bands, soldiers first players second.
Those who do please leave a little space in your prayers for Monkey and his family, for the rest if you are in the beer tent at the weekend or at home raise a glass to a fellow pipe band guy and a decent bloke, who has given his all so that we can raise a glass in peace and security.
RIP Monkey

Re: Sad Loss
Thanks for letting us know, it does go to show what sort of people are in pipe bands,
If you can, please pass on our condolences to his family, I lost a pal 6 weeks ago from 40 Commando, I know the notes from friends made a difference
RIP

Re: Sad Loss
Sad no matter how a fellow colleague passes away, they say it comes in 3's. My mother phoned me to say one of the old Armstrong Memorial guys passed away last night. There's only two of the original RAMS left, my Dad 'n ma Uncle George.
R.I.P Stephen, may the flowers of the forest bloom for ever o'er yer head.

Re: Sad Loss
So sorry to read of all these passings, no matter who when or how it is always sad.
Being an ex squaddie, muy heart goes to the lad killed in action, but to all who grieve, they are probably in a far better place.
